They are called Adria,
Eriba, Monsun, Schwarze Pumpe or Friedel. They come from Teltow, Neuenhagen, Strausberg and Werder. Without help from their friends they would have never made it all the way to the Uferhallen. Two men had to shove, transport, load and unload them. When they were parked in the courtyard you could immediately see that they had seen a lot of roads in their day. The sellers emphasized: ˝For collectors and do-it-yourselfers˝.
For the next few weeks the trailers will stand in the so-called finishing hall of the Uferhallen. They seem to hover over inspection pits, as though they were alien. Encircled by the trailers, a small square opens up in the middle. On this piazza concerts, readings and workshops will take place during the tanznacht’s four days and nights. Between the trailers a location for post-show meetings emerges.
Up until the begin of the tanznacht choreographers and dancers will reconstruct the trailers according to their own visions. To do so they will inspect the trailers from top to bottom, open doors, windows and trapdoors, shove partitions, measure walls, height and width. Finger tips carefully touch old curtains and upholstery, remove lamps and finally write ideas on a piece of paper. In the end, a note is taped to the door: mine.
During the tanznacht the artists will then populate the trailers and invite you in for palm-reading, massages, dream interpretation, telephone sex, power naps, drink excesses, concerts, readings, common housing, video installations, screeching Italians in prayer rooms, mirrored observation caves, cheap joints or idyllic love hotels.
When, at a late hour, guests, artists, or the public no longer want to return home, they can rest their weary heads in one of the trailers. Mattresses, pillows and blankets are all provided. The next morning you will awake with a start; strengthened with a hearty breakfast you can enter into your new festival day with training, workshops, lecture performances, films, etc., as though no end were in sight. The trailer park follows the idea of transformation through permanent use. The interventions turn social communication into a stage that constantly changes in the common mix of visitors and artists. Where does playing begin, where does observing end?
The trailer park and the tanznacht berlin 08 closes on Sunday with a big trailer auction and our call: buy your favorite, acquire the trailer you have fallen in love with, that seduced you, stimulated you, inspired you, amused you, aroused you or excited you, and fix it up. For example Friedel. She is small and square, a cute and touching trailer from the 60s. There are plans to publicly destroy her and even let her go up in smoke. If you want to save Friedel from this end, then do something. Even if you don’t kidnap her.
